COVID-19 UPDATE

Coronavirus cancellation sign

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario Soccer sanctioned activities have been cancelled or postponed until at least June 30, 2020. These activities include, but are not limited to, all competitions, training, coach and match official education and team building activities.

As communicated in March, Ontario Soccer had extended the annual deadline for Match Official registration to April 30th (from March 31st) with all registration late fees waived for the 2020 season. Ontario Soccer is encouraging all Match Officials to register now, so that Districts, Clubs and Academies can be fully prepared to kick off the Return to Play season when announced.

Based on the official start date of the 2020 season, there will be a weekly pro-rated reduction in registration fees. This pro-rating will begin July 6, 2020.

Ontario Soccer and the District Associations are still going to be providing programming to support the development of Match Officials once the season kicks off, therefore, the LTOD fee and District Development Fees will still be collected as a part of registration, but will also be pro-rated.

If you registered prior to the pro-rated fees coming into place, Ontario Soccer will be reaching out to you directly and individually in regards to refunding the difference between the fees based on the season start date.

Registration remains open, and Match Officials, Assignors and Assessors can register at any time. In the coming days, Ontario Soccer will be sharing a Match Official specific FAQ and further Match Officiating communication.

For more information from Ontario Soccer, visit their Information Bulletins.

We will keep you posted as new updates become available.

As the importance of being in an excellent physical shape cannot be underestimated, we encourage you to examine fitness options provided provided in the following link and train according to your need.

Petrescu reaches 150!

Congratulations to our very own Silviu Petrescu on officiating his 150th MLS match between Real Salt Lake and the Philadelphia Union! It wasn’t an easy game as Silviu had three VAR decisions, a possible dismissal, an offside, and the ball in and out of play leading to a goal. He also had five cautions throughout the eventful night. Silviu had this to say about reaching the milestone. “To reach 150 games in the middle in the MLS was my dream come true. When I did the 1st game in Toronto in 2007, I didn’t expect this long run in my soccer career, but with hard work and commitment and support from your family everything is possible.” We wish him all the best as he continues to referee both in the MLS and CPL.
